We have specific humorous terminologies in some schools in Australia:
Eggs- White people who crave for an inner asianness.
Crunchies- Black people who want to be asian.
Bananas- Asians who forget they aren't white.
Oreos- Black people who think they're really white.
In 2007 inner chineseness/australianness, and also observes how it interacts with my Malaysian heritage of which I understand so litle.
I've just started language classes too... three out of four classes seem alright, the last one (comprehension) will be a killer. It's ok.. I need pushing... if I didn't get pushed, I don't think I would try that hard.
I've also been talking chinese with the chinese people, which is cool! Invited my landlady to lunch... she and her husband took me to this western style cafe and I tried my first fruit pizza there. Pineapples are one thing, but I couldn't really distinguish the rest of the fruit besides lychees. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! I let them know fruit pizzas were uncommon in the west. Anyway, I think they like me... they were talking about inviting me to stay with them in their house during the holidays.. so I can hang out with their 13 yr old kid... to which I'm not sure of yet... I think i'd rather travel... and plus I've already paid for the rent in our apartment for 6 months! Maybe for a few nights, it could be interesting. =)
Life seems abundantly casual here. I don't exactly have things to do, places to be every hour of the day like I do in Sydney... it is nice to be so relaxed about life... Last night after class we had a great, yummy dinner and then went for drinks and a foot massage. Mmmmmmmm...
